Symptoms Of Strangulated Hiatal Hernias

The hiatal hernia is the most common type of hernia that people will have to deal with. This is considered by most doctors to be a very simple a minor problem to have to deal with. There is no need to worry about what it is doing and, unlike some health problems, you do not have to change the way that you eat or go about your life.

Like with most types of hernias this does not come with any harmful and painful side effects. That is one of the biggest reasons why people do not understand what they have for the longest time. In fact sometimes they never know unless they can feel or see the bulge that it has created.

As harmless as this can be there might still come a time when you will have bigger problems on your hand due to this. Over a period of time it is possible for this to become strangulated. This means that it has been twisted so much that it is blocking off the blood supply. This is a fatal problem that must be treated with immediate surgery.

Luckily there are symptoms that you can look out for when trying to identify this problem in a hiatal hernia. The most common of these include;

  • Chest pain
  • Stomach pain
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Difficult swallowing
  • Chills
  • Weakness
  • Swelling near the hernia

Some people might feel all of these symptoms and others might only feel a few of them at one time. For more proof you should touch the hernia and feel how swollen and painful it is. If it is sticking out more than usual or is very painful than go to the ER right away and explain to them what is wrong.
